What the DPP readiness score measures
The checker measures whether a Shopify product export contains a usable foundation of common product data. It looks for fields frequently needed when teams prepare structured product information: title, vendor or brand, SKU, barcode, weight, country of origin, material composition and care instructions. The result is a coverage score across the product rows in the uploaded file.
This is intentionally a data-readiness score, not a legal-compliance score. The ESPR framework states that passport information must be accurate, complete and up to date, while the applicable product-specific act determines exactly which data must appear, the required data carrier, whether the passport applies at model, batch or item level, and which actors can access each field.
How the calculation works
1. Header mapping
The tool maps common Shopify and custom column names to eight readiness areas. For example, “Variant SKU” and “SKU” are treated as the same area, and common origin and material labels are recognized.
2. Row coverage
For each area, the checker counts how many product rows contain a non-empty value. A field present in every row receives 100% coverage; a field present in half of the rows receives 50%.
3. Overall score
The tool averages the eight coverage percentages. Areas below 90% are added to the prioritized remediation list, with the lowest-coverage areas shown first.
4. Human validation
A populated field can still be inaccurate, outdated or unsupported. Teams should validate values against supplier declarations, certificates, technical files and current category requirements.

Common Shopify preparation problems
- Materials are written only in descriptions instead of a structured composition field.
- Country of origin is missing or confused with the brand’s headquarters.
- Barcodes and SKUs are reused, incomplete or stored inconsistently across variants.
- Care instructions exist only on labels or supplier PDFs.
- Weight fields represent shipping weight instead of the product measure required by a future rule.
- Supplier evidence is stored separately with no durable link to the product or claim.

No. The score measures selected catalog-field coverage. Compliance depends on the applicable product rules, evidence quality and current product-specific requirements.

Is my Shopify CSV uploaded to a server?
The file is read and analyzed in the browser. The tool does not intentionally transmit the catalog file to Passporteer.
What should I do after receiving the score?
Prioritize fields with the lowest coverage, confirm the source of each field, identify evidence owners and validate the resulting data against the product category’s current requirements.
